Automation platform with an MIT-licensed core, billed one credit per run however many steps it has, with AI steps costing 2 to 20 credits.
Teams that want a genuinely MIT-licensed core they can self-host for free, plus a hosted plan billed per run rather than per step. Suits engineering-adjacent teams willing to write a piece in TypeScript and open a pull request against the catalogue. Also fits companies embedding automation in their own product, with a white-label builder, one SDK and custom pieces available on the Embed plan from $36k/year.
The one-credit-per-run model only holds for non-AI steps. Activepieces prices AI steps at 2 credits for a fast model, 10 for a smart model and 20 for a frontier model, with agentic actions at 1 credit each, so an AI-heavy flow leaves the per-run baseline immediately; bringing your own AI keys cuts AI steps to 1 credit but is gated to Plus at $20/mo flat and above. The Free plan is 1,000 credits and up to 5 users, with runs waiting for the next reset rather than overflowing. The MIT grant does not cover everything: packages/ee and packages/server/api/src/app/ee sit under the Activepieces Enterprise License, which permits modification and copying for development and testing without a subscription but allows production use only with a valid Enterprise licence for the correct number of user seats, and forbids copying, merging, publishing, distributing, sublicensing or selling. SSO, unlimited projects and global connections require Team at $200/mo, and SCIM, custom roles, Git Sync and audit logs require Ultimate on custom terms.
Pros
Cons
Partly, and the split matters. The repository LICENSE file places content outside the enterprise directories under the MIT Expat license, which is OSI-approved. Content in packages/ee and packages/server/api/src/app/ee falls under the separate Activepieces Enterprise License. That licence permits modification, publishing patches, and copying for development and testing without a subscription, but production use requires a valid Enterprise licence for the correct number of user seats.
The pricing page states that a run is one credit however many steps it has, so ordinary step count does not change the cost. AI steps are the exception: a fast model costs two credits, a smart model ten and a frontier model twenty, while agentic actions cost one credit each. Supplying your own AI keys reduces AI steps to one credit, which requires the Plus plan or above.
The free cloud plan is advertised as free forever with no card, including one thousand credits, unlimited flows, agents, tables, MCP servers and API access for up to five users. When credits are exhausted, runs wait for the next reset rather than incurring overage charges. Note that the comparison table describes the free credit reset as daily while the FAQ says a fresh thousand credits arrive every month.
Yes. Activepieces documents a one-line install script, a recommended Docker Compose deployment with PostgreSQL and Redis, and a Helm chart for teams already running Kubernetes. Third-party templates for AWS, GCP, Railway, Elestio, Easypanel, PikaPods, RepoCloud and Zeabur install the free Community edition and may lag on version. Enterprise features need a licence key activated, and the enterprise directories are not covered by the MIT grant.
